Robust animals in sustainable free-range systems

Animal- and plant-science for better animal welfare and more sustainable food-production

We investigate how mixed free-range farming can improve animal robustness and welfare. As well as improving environmental/economic sustainability in organic pig farming. This will support a wider adoption of organic farming across Europe combining animals and cash-crops on the same farm.

We believe that combining organic pig production with other livestock and the growing of cash-crops or trees in free-range production systems may be a good way to adapt the industry to climate change, changing markets and costs. While creating better animal-welfare and fulfilling consumer expectations.
